The balsam fir is a tree characteristic of the boreal forests. It is the medicinal plant most used by the First Nations of Eastern Canada. Its resin was consumed in the form of tea as a treatment for many conditions such as colds, asthma, kidney problems or even to give an energy boost. The same resin could be applied topically to help healing.
The essential oil of balsam fir is derived from a steam distillation of its needles. The oil obtained is composed mainly of monoterpenes and esters. The main compound of this essential oil is β-pinene (monoterpene).

Black Spruce is the most common tree in Canada. The First Nations used Black Spruce to treat various ailments. The young shoots were used in a decoction for coughs and also as a sedative. A resin poultice could be applied to the chest for respiratory problems. Bark resin could be used as chewing gum.

Jack Pine is the most common pine in Canada. It is a North American conifer found mostly in the eastern boreal forest. The First Nations used most parts of this plant essence to prepare remedies to treat respiratory problems and to heal cuts.
Jack Pine essential oil contains mainly monoterpenes and esters. It is distinguished by a higher proportion of pinene and the presence of myrcene and limonene. The oil, resulting from the distillation of its needles and branches, offers a scent with fruity and fresh herbal notes. The majority compound of this essential oil is α-pinene (monoterpene).

The leaves and twigs of Labrador tea were used by the First Nations in the form of decoction and infusion to treat various pathologies such as fever, rheumatism, respiratory diseases and seasonal flu. It was also used for its diuretic virtues and as a tonic. The essential oil Boreal Synergy is composed of essential oil of Labrador tea, essential oil of Black Spruce and essential oil of Balsam Fir.
Labrador tea oil is derived from the distillation of its leaves and is gaining more and more interest in the field of aromatherapy. The main compound of this essential oil is sabinene (monoterpene).
